AMERSTONE AMETHYST JEWEL (King-Lamone 2002)
(FAIRY SUMMERBIRD X DANCING SUMMERBIRD )
A little surprise in the seedling patch, this low-growing very floriferous crispata is by far the shortest and smallest crispata I have ever seen. The idea to start working for smaller and shorter-scaped crispatas began to dawn on me as I watched this little flower bloom on for weeks. The base form is not as slender as many of my other crispatas, so at times, when the sepals don't quill as tightly, it reflects many of its 1960's great grand parents in form.
The illustration is typical for the wealth of flowers it produces on 3 and 4-way branched scapes. The colour is a lilac-amethyst with a very large green-turning-chartreuse throat. The colours look magnificent in cool weather. In hot weather the form begins to really dance!
Mid Season, ca 25 buds per scape, 3 weeks of bloom, 4in flowers, DOR, NOCT, Frag.
