BARBARESCO (King-Lamone 2000)
A subtle Crispata, usually with quilled sepals
and flat petals. Low-growing and with large-flowers, making a very interesting
statement near the front of the border!
This very beautiful burgundy crispata shows its
Lambert heritage. Fertile both ways, Increasing immediately after being
transplanted to the rich aluvial soil at the nursery, this seedling produced
an abundance of this exotically shaped flowers on relatively short scapes,
just above the foliage tips. The effect was superb.
Crispation has been very consistant for us when
weather is normally warm. When we've had cool to chilly evenings with warm
days, the petals remained flat and very spatulate-shapes. Top-branching
is hardly noticed as the flowers are displayed nust a few inches above the
foliage.
