MYNELLE'S STARFISH
A compact, low-growing crispate star out of breeding
programmes for fuller, more rounded forms, MYNELLE'S STARFISH is exceptionally
exotic-looking planted alongside a pathway where one can peer down into
the large, wide-open flowers. I've used it many times in crosses, seedling
of which were mostly full-formed, almost all evergreen but hardy.
This evergreen appreciates heavy mulches and winter
protection in our climate, rewarding with more vigorous growth and better
bloom. The form is quite variable, ranging from a flat-open star with ripply
- wavy edges to a curling and twisting CRISPATA. In breeding, it adds much
needed substance to Exotic Forms (UF -AHS).
