FLIGHT OF THE DRAGON (King-Lamone 2002)
(DANCING SUMMERBIRD X FAIRY SUMMERBIRD)
A bit a frustration about the name. I asked for
ON DRAGON'S WINGS and it was transposed somewhere along the way as DRAGON
WINGS, which was turned down. The registered name arose out of proposals
to keep the idea of the wings of a dragon (It's huge size and greenish undertones)
but the name now, for me, doesn't capture this idea. A "Flight of a
Dragon" daylily should, for me, be red. Ah well..... a lot of good
names have been wasted over the years...
This is another one of my "botanic beauty"
Exotic Forms. Odd and beguiling at the same time, this one draws attention
due to sheer strangeness!
This one is huge and has that strange greenish-buff-salmon-rust
combination that is in GREEN-EYED LIZARD, but with less green throughout
the tepals. The colours are salmon-buff on yellow-green in the morning,
lightening a lot in heat and sun to a pale salmon-flesh on medium yellow
by afternoon. This top to 2-way branched "winged thing" starts
to bloom in ML and continues well into Late season. Really stunning due
to its very large wingspan and flat-open, spatulate and slightly crispate
form.
