PAUL WEBER (2000 King-Lamone)
A superb Crispata! Extremely well-branched but
the inital blooms explode with such vigour that they do get a little crowded.
And if heavily feritilized, the initial blooms are much fuller-faced but
still crispate. What I feel maked this flower an excellent Crispata is that
it has well-open forms, regular quilling, a subtle design detail of salmon
in the throat and the overall plant is well-controlled and harmonious. It
works well with many other forms in the mixed border and has a easily-worked-in
colour. Named for the late husband of the Exotic Form collector Cathy Weber.
36in, Mid season, 9in, NOCT, DOR, Fr, 2 to 3 way
branching, ca 18 - 20 buds per scape produced over three to four week period.
With the 2 wide-sweeping branched scapes carry
the huge flowers (ca 18 - 19 cm) pale yellow, flat-open flowers to perfection.
The form: strap-segmented near Spider Variant with crispately pinched tepal
tips, creating a flat-open star-like blossom. After cool evenings, a salmon-pink
blush halo appears in the throat of the flower. Hard DOR, going dormant
in Mid September. Good increase once established. Scapes ca 70 cm, Noct.
