SPIDER VARIANTS
Spider Variants, once used to refer to Exotic
Form Daylilies (now called the Unusual Form Class) are a category of slender
tepaled Daylily cultivars in which the petal width to petal tip ratios range
between 4.0-1 and 4.9-1. The Classic Spiders, or often referred to as the
"True Spider" are those open-faced slender flowers with ratios
of 5.0-1 and higher.
The SPIDER VARIANTS, being fuller in form, display
more colour surface and are often preferred by garden designers for this
purpose. It is important to note that also here, as with the CLASSIC SPIDERS,
many non conforming cultivars have been officially included in registrations
in the AHS.
