ROYAL HERON
(TRAHLYTA X ASTERISK)
36in, 8.5in, NOCT, DOR, Midlate, Lilac lavender
with huge lemon ivory watermark and lemon ivory throat. Slow to moderate
increase. This "watermarked" near spider took my breath away when
first seen in the seedling beds. Garden visitors said the same. It stood
out amongst numerous sibling seedlings like a beacon as far as form and
flat-faced-ness goes. The lighter watermark throat seemed to glow with its
own light. TRAHLYTA gives numerous seedlings similar to the Kennzeichen
lavenders and violets from the Child's family productive breeding programmes,
many of which have a trumpet-shaped form typical of introductions from the
late 1960's. Many were well branched, overriding ASTERISK's dominance at
reducing branching, and many displayed very nocturnal tendencies. This one
and one other seedling, registered as PINK STAR SAPPHIRE stood out in distinctiveness
and colours. A literal joy to behold. Easy seed setter, I hope to augment
its branching with crosses to DANCE ON THE WIND and ALTA VISTA.
