WINDBLOWN SANDS
(RON ROUSSEAU X MYNELLE'S STARFISH)
This cross was made to produce more low-growing,
large-flowering crispate stars like MYNELLE'S STARFISH with some of the
crispation pattern and sienna brushing of RON ROUSSEAU, but almost all seedlings
displayed very round forms, most ruffled and some very poorly branched.
This seedling gave me the swept-back, flat-faced look that I like best in
Unusual Forms. This sienna-brushed lemon yellow opens nocturnally and is
wide open by dawn. Its flowers are large (at 5.5-6inches) and are displayed
just above the foliage on shortish scapes. The most exotic aspect of this
flower, to me, is the sienna-tan dusting and streaking, combined with the
lighter midribs and the added dimension of gently twisting tepals. In its
third year it displayed beautiful two-way branching and good increase.

In this second shot this seedling shows the exotic
appearance of the swept-back flowers, the beginnings of a RON ROUSSEAU type
of crispation, the low-flowering habitus as well as the thick ascending,
arching foliage. A productive seed parent. Evergreen and vigorous.
