YELLOW SPOONBILL (King-Lamone 2002)
I have had this images placed in the wrong frame
for a couple of years. It was originally put up on the website as LIMONCELLO,
which I corrected a year ago. YELLOW SPOONBILL is a full sib to LIMONCELLO
but is very different in colour and in character.
This spatulate Unusual Form is heavily branched
and has darker stems and touches of maroon in the unopened buds and in the
stems, creating a fascinating colour play before the flowers open. Once
many flowers start to open, this initial subtly of colour play isn't as
apparent. Excellent growth, NOCT, ca. 28 inches with 2 - 4 way branching
and 25 buds per scape, LEMON SPOONBILL starts blooming after LEMON STARFISH
finishes and before LIMONCELLO has begun, bridging the gap between the two
and completing nearly 2 months of continuous yellow crispate bloom. A heavy
bloomer, sometimes smothering the clumps with dancing yellow spoons! A landscape
daylily in the sense of self-coloured and heavy bloom.
